Our Itinerary

April 29th - We started our decent on the South Kaibab trail around 7:30 am hiking towards Phantom Ranch. From the Rim to Phantom Ranch(Bright Angel Campground) it is roughly 6.7 miles and little under a mile of vertical drop and the view - incredible. We reached Phantom Ranch around 12:30 pm, so for all you math geniuses that means it took us roughly 5 hours. After getting our bearings and catching our breath we set up camp. Once camp was set we took a stroll to the Colorado River to take a swim. I think we both have a new meaning of the word COLD. The river was in the neighborhood of 40 degrees ferhenhiet, but very refreshing considering it was around 100 degrees directly in the sun.

April 30th - We woke around 5:50 am to go eat breakfast at the Cantien and then went right back to camp to sleep. It was the best sleep we' ve had in 2 days. Neither one of us could sleep in the hotels. It was around noon when we finally got our act together and started up the North Kaibab trail to Phantom Creek for our adventure into the backcountry. If you are heading north east on the North Kaibab trail from Phantom Ranch, Phantom Creek will branch off to your left in about mile. We guestimated that we hiked a mile or so up the Phantom Creek. The water coming from the creeks was better than any water you can you buy at your local convenience store. We found water falls and a little place we could bath. Check out the "Pictures&Video" section to get a better look. We relaxed that night by playing a little "Magic the Gathering".

May 1st - Early that morning we started our accent up the Bright Angel trail to Indian Garden campsite. Making it there much quicker then planned we had a lot of time to just relax, enjoy the view and chase the squirrels away from our site. After a few hours and cooking our 45 minute dinner we hiked out to Plateau Point. I have to say it was one of the most tranquil places I have ever been.

May 2nd - Sad to say, that morning we packed our gear and finished our accent up the Bright Angel to the rim. We got to the rent-a-car around 12:30 pm and headed to Sodona for a shower and some food.
